SOB Photography is Steve O’Bryan. Based in Glendale, California, a suburb of Los Angles, I am available for editorial photography, event photography and commerical photography.

I’m known for shooting up and down the West Coast of the United States. Generally from the Los Angeles area to the Central Coast and the Central Valley of California.  I’m open to conversations about further distances but my schedule is quite demanding.

I’m known for photographing other artists and specialize in low and available light.

I do photograph funerals at a discount for special occasions, (military veterans, public service and survivors of sudden loss and unexpected loss).

Farzad Kohan, Contemporary Artist

He did pay me a lot to write this

Of all the photographers I know Stephen is one of them.  He did pay me a lot to write this but despite that…..I think I should let you know he actually is really talented and I would use him again.

Glen Marhevka, Musician

“This guy! It’s like drinking 21 year old Balvenie after a lifetime of Yukon Jack. You drink it and think why did I put up with all that other shit after all those years? Steve O’Bryan’s has a different photographic perspective on aesthtics than most.  It’s not for everyone but if you like good Scotch you’ll probably enjoy his work.

Editorial Photography

Sold Stories

Real estate professionals, Glendale Diggs wanted to tell their client’s Sold Stories in a unique way that would engage their readers. Adapting an editorial photography Diggs hired SOB Photography to capture their clients as they told their own unique stories.

On Location

All of the Diggs Sold Stories are shot in the homes of the people featured in the article. It’s important to not only capture the people but the home it’s self so that the location becomes a character in the story it’s self.

Lighting

Wth very few exceptions virtually all of my Sold Stories imagesect only utilizes available light. I purposely avoid using strobes or modeling lights because I want the people to feel at ease with me photographing them.

Gear

Nikon D810 | Nikon 50mm 1.4 | Nikon 18-200 f/5.6 | Nikon 85mm f/1.4G

Project

The goal of these Sold Stories projects are to capture the spirit of the subjects in the published works. I want the reader to personally relate to the subjects.

Documentary Photography

Google Maps Photography

Most of my Documentary Photography looks at places and objects within those places. I find every day places difficult to photograph and so I push myself toward doing it. I’ve chosen Google Maps as my vehicle of sharing my documentary photos.

On Location

The best thing about Google Maps is that you can see exactly where every photo was taken. Most of the photos are taken in the Western States but a few are in Mexico. The majority of the photos are in the Los Angeles area where I’m based.

Lighting

This series of photographs generally only use available light. Occasionally the flash on camera is used but generally not.

Gear

Samsung Galaxy S7

Project

Utilizing Google Maps, I practice documentary photography to show the world around me. If I take a good photo of a place or a location people find it helpful and the pull it up and look at it. If I take a poor photo it gets ignored. This genre doesn’t care for rule of thirds, leading lines and other silly rules. The only thing that matters is does the photo show what the viewers want to see?

About Steve O‘Bryan

I’m hard working photographer with a unique perspecitve on how to view the world. I’m not interested in doing glamor photography. I don’t shoot models. I honestly don’t think I’d be any good at it. What I am good at is telling stories through my photographs.

I like to photograph authentic people. These are the folks who are the most honest about themeselves and what they are about. I like  photographing entrepreneurs, fighers of any kind, people who have struggled and people who love.  I like noise and contrast in my photos. I want my photos to be a glimpse into a moment in time that most people have missed but that I captured.

I want to tell your story in my unique way that isn’t pretty, it isn’t ugly it’s just honest in what I see. Let me know if your interested. Oh yeah and if you have money. I don’t work for free.
